
The
Daphne Jazz Band is a course taken in the second semester
for students that make it through the tryouts. Working
up several charts, the Jazz band performs at various
functions such as recruitment, judged competitions,
and musical festivals for the general public. The
Jazz Band provides music for festivals, school functions
and at the Colonial BelAir Mall Family Friday Night.
The
Daphne High School Jazz Band, under the directions
of Rick Fasion, performed recently at the 2003 University
of South Alabama Jazz Festival and Clinic. They
were jedgued by USA jazz insturctor, Tracy Heavner,
and professional musicians Jim Wildner and Mike
Mathney, Dr. Gred Gruner, USA Music Department chariman,
was the host of the festival. The DHS Jazz Band
was awarded a plaque for its excellent performance,
and five students were also given individual certificates
for their outstanding performances on their instruments.
Students receiving personal awards were Adam Free
on tenor sax, Janathan Staska on trombone, Matt
Decker on drums, Cliff Snellgrove on electric guitar
and Paul Possien on bass trombone. The Daphne High
School Jazz Band will be one of the featured Jazz
bands at the Fairhope Jazz Festival to help on the
Fairhiope caompus of Faulkner State Community College
on May 3 / 2003. Their performance is seceduled
for 1:15 p.m.at the day-long event.
